Baum und Pferdgarten co-founders Rikke Baumgarten and Helle Hestehave often go for a glass of wine after work, at a little cafe behind the Royal Danish Theatre. From their favorite perch over the road, they can see the ballet dancers spill out onto the street after rehearsals.

Some rush out in full ballet-core: legwarmers and stretchy headbands in situ. Others cover up with 1980s-inspired sportswear or everyday clothes, capri leggings peeking out under their skirts and ballet shoes slung over the shoulder of their duster coats. This haphazard styling was the inspiration for their spring 2027 collection, presented during golden hour at The King’s Garden.

While bringing the collection to life, Baumgarten and Hestehave said they listened to old Nelly Furtado songs. When they stumbled across a review describing her as an “un-done ballerina girl,” they knew she had to soundtrack the show.

The ballet references ran throughout, from the cropped satin jackets with lace-up corset detailing to the miniature tutus worn as belts, and the scrunched-up legwarmers styled with almost every look. But the street style inspiration didn’t end at ballet-core. There were also nods to recent trends like butter yellow, bambi prints, and a collaboration with ballet flat icon Pretty Ballerinas.

“We used elements like the tutus to keep us on theme,” said Baumgarten. “Tulle would have been too obvious, but the transparency and embroidery gives you a sense of ballet.”
